Thoughts

In a culture of mass production, the impact generated by the handmade can be transformative. From a child’s perspective, exposure to handmade objects introduces the idea that anything is possible, imagination is king. The bond that comes from sharing in the activity of creating is one that leaves a lasting imprint. In design, the collaborative process can trace roots back to the success of cooperative craft as a community-building tool and bring together disparate viewpoints at an early stage to allow a deeper study of needs and a broader consideration of approaches.

Formally, society’s value of craft is in constant flux. However, cross-disciplinary engagement can prove to be a benefit to problem solving and innovation. I am interested in learning through this type of engagement and my thoughts around this process and its roots have in large part, shaped my thoughts and approaches to art and design.
